Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionelle Small Seconds

Vacheron Constantin was founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, making this brand one of the world’s oldest. Jean-Marc Vacheron began as an independent watchmaker in Geneva. The company was bought into by Francois Constantin in 1819 providing the other half of  the name that every adoring fan has come to know and love.

Vacheron Constantin was bought over by the Richemont Group and has become one of the world’s most prestigious brands making from tourbillions to minute repeaters that have been sought after the world around.

On July 5th 1819, Francois Constantin sent a letter which contained the quote ‘Do Better If Possible and That Is Always Possible’. This became the company’s motto and has remained that even onto today. The Patrimony Traditionelle Small Seconds collection is rendered in 18kt yellow, rose, white gold, and 950 Platinum. The platinum model features an anthracite dial while the gold versions offer white dials. The case measures a moderate 38mm for the diameter. This gent’s timepiece rides low on the wrist with a case height of just 7.77mm.

Powering this enchanting watch is the manual wound Calibre 4400 AS. The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. The movement is decorated with Cotes de Genève and is adjusted at 5 different positions ensuring the perfect time is always observed. The watch carries 21 jewels and beats at 4 Hz or 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement has a minimum power reserve of approximately 65 hours and bears the esteemed Hallmark of Geneva as its stamp of excellence.

The small seconds subdial is located at the 6 o’clock position. The dial also features silver toned dauphine hands and applied indexes marking the hours. A prominent minute track is located on the flange. Naturally, as with all watches of this ilk, the Patrimony Traditionelle Small Seconds uses the scratch resistant sapphire crystal guarding against scratches.

This model uses black alligator leather with a tang type buckle strapping it to the wrist. With a water resistance of 3 bars it isn’t recommended taking this watch into the shower. However, the Patrimony Traditionelle Small Seconds is an exceptional piece and shows off Vacheron Constantin’s superior prowess as a watchmaker par excellence.
