The Girard Perregaux "Protect What Is Precious" Cat's Eye

In a stunning display of Girard Perregaux’s skill at creating the innately beautiful, the ‘Protect What Is Precious’ Cat’s Eye stands out as one magnificent timepiece. About 6 weeks ago, Susan and David Rockefeller with acclaimed watch manufacturer Girard Perregaux and auction house Christie’s presented the latest documentary from Susan Rockefeller entitled “Food for Thought, Food for Life”. This documentary premiered at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, and it focused on sustainable food sources and the future of ecological and agricultural environments.

In honor of this collaboration, Girard Perregaux has created a timepiece in the Cat’s Eye collection called ‘Protect What Is Precious’. This phrase pays homage to the Rockefellers as it is identified as their personal motto. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Cat’s Eye collection. Susan Rockefeller also had a hand in the development of this amazing ladies watch.

The case of the watch is made in 18kt pink gold in the iconic oval shape of the Cat’s Eye collection. The dimensions across are 35.44 mm, and 30.44mm in length. Around the bezel, GP sets impressively sized full cut, round brilliant diamonds. Naturally, these are going to be no less Top Wesselton and VVS in color and clarity respectively. The case back is exhibition styled and carries the inscription “Protect What Is Precious”. The watch, as expected, is water resistant to 30 meters. Completing the look of this model is a shiny black leather strap, equipped with folding clasp made from pink gold.

The dial features mother of pearl and a depiction of a flower made from pink gold, and 73 tsavorites. Tsavorite, which hails from the chryso-beryl family is noted for its range of green, also seen here on the dial. GP and Susan Rockefeller chose this green gemstone to symbolize the values that they both share – “Green Ideas and Values”.

Powering this watch is a self-winding mechanical movement that carries about 46 hours of power reserve. The Girard Perregaux “Protect What Is Precious” Cat’s Eye is a unique piece.
