The Maurice LaCroix Masterpiece Gravity

Maurice LaCroix’s latest model the Masterpiece Gravity is nothing short of spectacular. Its claim to fame is that it is one of the first timepieces in the world to feature a movement made completely from silicon. As with many masterpiece models from Maurice LaCroix, the Masterpiece Gravity is offered in a very classic aesthetic.

The Masterpiece gravity comes in two versions – A stainless steel case that has been satin finished, and a stainless steel with anthracite PVD finish. Both models are featured with a case diameter of 43mm, which does seem to be a perfect size that looks good on almost any size wrist. This model carries a glass box sapphire crystal above the dial, which has been generously coated on both sides with glare proofing for a crystal clear view of the time. The case back is screwed in and also features a sapphire crystal, which exhibits the wondrous movement inside.

The Maurice LaCroix Masterpiece Gravity is outfitted with a genuine crocodile leather strap, which comes in either black or brown depending on the model. The strap is secured using a single folding satin finished and polished stainless steel clasp, equipped with a dual push button release system.

The dial on this watch is quite interesting with an off-centered minute and hour dial, and just below it is a smaller subdial revealing the continuous seconds. The display for the hours and minutes is featured on a bridge that is decorated with a Clous de Paris motif for the version in stainless steel, or a brushed finish for the edition in anthracite PVD stainless steel. The area between the 6 and 8 positions show off the balance and assortment. These components are made from silicon, which is highly anti-magnetic and very lightweight.

The caliber powering this model is the ML230, which is self-winding mechanical, and boasts a power reserve of 50 hours. The balance wheel beats at a constant 18,000 VpH. The movement is decorated with Côte de Genève markings located on the bridges and rotor. For accuracy the Maurice LaCroix Masterpiece Gravity has been adjusted in five positions after being wound fully, and again in two positions after 24 hours. This model will be released in the last quarter of 2014.
