The Chopard Mille Miglia 2014 Race Edition

The Chopard Mille Miglia 2014 Race Edition was officially showcased at Baselworld earlier this year. Chopard’s involvement with the Mille Miglia Race started in 1988, when the brand became the official timekeeper for the race that translates to 1000 miles.

The 2014 edition of the Mille Miglia watch features the color scheme of the Italian flag – Red, green, and white. Chopard honors Italy in this creation as it is a host to this prestigious annual race and had dominated it in the early years. Chopard offers the Mille Miglia 2014 in two case options – 18kt rose gold, and stainless steel. Both versions come in a limited edition series of 2,014 pieces each.

The case is highly polished and is fitted on a dark brown calfskin Barenia with complementary brown saddle stitching. Securing the strap is a traditional pin buckle clasp. These watches are made well-proportioned with dimensions of 42mm across, and 12.31mm for the case height. The crown and pushers are relatively prominent – clearly designed with ease-of-use in mind.

The case back is transparent sapphire crystal, through which you can admire the movement decorated with perlage and Côtes de Genève designs. The case back also features the official emblem of the Mille Miglia race, and the limited edition number XXXX/2014 of the watch. This style of case back is reminiscent of the early Mille Miglia models. This stunning timepiece carries a water resistance of 50 meters.

Protecting the very legible dial is another sapphire crystal, this time glare proofed on both sides. Both models feature a white dial with oversized printed Arabic numerals for the hour markers, and brushed titanium toned luminous hands.

The chronograph seconds hand is made in a bright red that contrasts wonderfully against the dial. The chronograph counters at the 6 and 9 positions are clearly labeled hours and minutes respectively. At the 3 position there is a true seconds subdial. Just above the hour markers is a distinctive green chrono seconds scale, while the flange displays a stunning red, graduated tachometric scale. Completing the dial is a prominent date aperture at the 4:30 position.

Powering the Chopard Mille Miglia 2014 Race Edition is a self-winding mechanical movement officially certified a chronometer by the COSC. This automatic movement features a rate of 28,800 VpH, or 4 Hz, and an oscillating weight described by Chopard as being made from a heavy metal. The Chopard Mille Miglia 2014 Race Edition will be released to retailers later on this year.
